Some Yoruba culture icons have raised an alarm over the depreciation in the use of Yoruba language as a means of communication among Yoruba elites.

They said the non-use of the language among the elite is also eroding Yoruba culture and tradition among the youth.

They raise the concern during a lecture to mark the 70th birthday of a foremost promoter of Yoruba traditional religion, Ifayemi Elebuibon.

Elebuibon is reputed for the promotion of Ifa oracle, Yoruba philosophical poetry as well as Yoruba culture, tradition and heritage.

Those who spoke at the event including a former governor of Osun state, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, members of the academic community and traditional rulers harped on the need for religious tolerance.
